SLIDESMITH 1.8.0 - WINDOWS
================================

Restyles the deck open in PowerPoint with YOUR OWN PowerPoint template
(.pptx or .potx) - cover, inside pages, separators and closing page - in
English or Arabic, or builds a new deck from your text in it. It comes with
no templates: add yours in the pane (Your templates > Add a template).

There is nothing else to install. No Python, no admin rights, no internet.

HOW TO INSTALL - THREE STEPS
------------------------------

STEP 1 Extract this ZIP.

Right-click the ZIP > "Extract All..." > Extract.

Do not run the program from inside the ZIP - Windows shows the
files but the installer cannot reach them from there.

STEP 2 Open the extracted folder and double-click:

             SlideSmith.exe

Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" box, because
the file is not signed with a paid certificate.
Click "More info", then "Run anyway".

It takes up to a minute. You get a message when it is done.

STEP 3 Close PowerPoint COMPLETELY (every window), then open it again.

Then: Home tab > SlideSmith > Apply Theme.

If the button is not on the Home tab:
         Home > Add-ins (or Insert > My Add-ins) > Developer Add-ins
         > SlideSmith

That is the whole installation. The program copies itself into your user
profile, so you can delete the extracted folder afterwards. It starts by
itself every time you sign in to Windows.

USING IT
--------

Your templates Add your .pptx / .potx once, pick it, then Apply. The deck open in PowerPoint is
               restyled in place.
"Keep my pages exactly as they are" (on by default) puts your
pages on the template's inside page untouched - the template
supplies the header and footer only.
From text Paste an outline or plain text and get a new deck in the
               chosen template.
On each template: edit, replace or remove it.

UPDATING
--------

Run the new version's "SlideSmith.exe" the same way. It replaces the
program; the templates you added are kept, in:

    %LOCALAPPDATA%\SlideSmith Add-in\themes

UNINSTALLING
------------

Settings > Apps > Installed apps > SlideSmith > Uninstall.

IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG
-----------------------

"Sorry, we can't load the add-in. Please make sure you have network
 and/or Internet connectivity."

This message is misleading - it has nothing to do with the internet.
It means PowerPoint could not reach the SlideSmith service on this PC.

Check it in 10 seconds: open Edge or Chrome and go to

        http://127.0.0.1:3901/api/health

    - If you see {"ok": true, ...} the service IS running. Close
PowerPoint completely, reopen it, then click Retry.
    - If the page cannot be reached, the service is NOT running. Run
"SlideSmith.exe" again - from the extracted folder, or from
      %LOCALAPPDATA%\SlideSmith Add-in - and read the message.

The pane is blank or white
Same cause as above. Use the 127.0.0.1:3901 check.

The SlideSmith button never appears
PowerPoint must be fully closed - check Task Manager for POWERPNT.EXE -
and reopened. If it still does not appear, your workplace policy may
block add-in sideloading; your IT team would need to allow it.

"Windows protected your PC" with no "Run anyway"
    Right-click "SlideSmith.exe" > Properties > tick "Unblock"
at the bottom > OK, then run it again.

Still stuck
Send these two files, from %LOCALAPPDATA%\SlideSmith Add-in :
        install.log
        server.log
plus a description of what you saw.

The pane is blank on an older Microsoft 365 build (IT note)
Builds that still use the legacy EdgeHTML web view block this PC's own
address. Updating Office fixes it; otherwise an administrator can run:
        CheckNetIsolation LoopbackExempt -a -n="microsoft.win32webviewhost_cw5n1h2txyewy"

Requires Windows 10 or 11 (Intel/AMD or ARM) and PowerPoint 2021 or later,
including Microsoft 365. (PowerPoint 2016 and 2019 cannot run this add-in:
it needs the slide-insert feature Microsoft added in PowerPoint 2021.)
